Owen Minter School Visits
I love talking to young readers and writers about writing, the books they love, and my book, The Shrouded Sword.
The Shrouded Sword is a middle-grade fantasy novel for ages 8 to 12 years old. Set in present-day Deadmoor, Virginia, it’s the story of twelve-year old Ethan Moseby, his ten- year old sister, Jynx, and their new friend, twelve-year old local genius Amos Sprunt. Together with the Moseby’s mysterious uncle, Socrates Maupin, the children solve riddles and ciphers to find the legendary lost sword, Excalibur.

School Visit Format
I can present to individual classes or multiple groups in a large setting. My goal is for the presentation to be interactive. I want to hear from the students; what they’re writing and what they’re reading.
My typical 45-minute presentation begins with a short powerpoint presentation introducing my book. Next, I discuss my inspiration for writing it, followed by my reading two selections from The Shrouded Sword. I then talk about my writing process, including research, revisions, working with editors, and collaboration with the book's illustrator. I ask the students about what they are writing and reading, and then conclude with a question and answer session.
I can also customize a presentation to complement school or writing workshop curriculum.
